WHAT IS CAHOOTS NI'S EDUCATION & OUTREACH

PROGRAMME?

Cahoots NI's Education & Outreach work consists of several strands...

The first of these is our workshop programme.  Cahoots NI design and deliver schools-based workshops which are available to schools attending our main productions.  These workshops are created to support the themes of the main shows, for example, themes of flight and moving air were featured in our 2005 show, The Travelling Teller, and were reflected in a series of Science Workshops which were enjoyed by over 3,000 children and teachers.

Our second area of Outreach work is centered around Arts & Health.  Bedside Theatre has run since 2004 and is an innovative and exciting project.  The aim of this project is to provide special one to one theatre experiences for children who are ill in hospital. The performances last around five minutes and the miniature set (an old-fashioned flea circus) is fully portable so that it can be used with children who are confined to their bed. The show is performed by a cast of three and features live music. Bedside Theatre is fully adaptable depending on the particular needs of individual patients or wards.  Bedside Theatre was shortlisted in The National Lottery Awards 2007 and competed against just nine other projects from around the UK.

The Bumblebee Orchestra is our latest community outreach project in the health sector and has just completed a five week tour of respite care units, hospitals and special schools throughout Northern Ireland.  The Bumblebee Orchestra features four giant musical bees who are keen to find some new recruits for their orchestra.  The wonderfully funny and entertaining performance is specifically catered for young people with physical and learning disabilities.  It is highly interactive and participants are engaged through puppetry, live music, magical illusion, song, dance and  comedy.

Cahoots NI  also  produce  fun  but  educational   curriculum-linked

resources for schools to support all of our main productions.

If you would like more information on, or free copies of, any of our resource packs then please contact me and I will be happy to send you one.
