| THE MUSICIAN @ THE PICK 'N' MIX FESTIVAL |
A three day theatrical marathon at the Old Museum Arts Centre
18th - 20th May 2007
The Pick 'n' Mix Festival featured six of the North's leading independent
theatre companies, with each presenting readings, tasters and mini-plays in
various styles.
Cahoots NI were thrilled to introduce their tenth piece of new work for
children and as with all Cahoots NI productions it was different, challenging
and innovative. 'The Musician – A Horror Opera for Children' is written by
local writer Conor Mitchell who takes a fresh look at an old tale.
The story features some old themes: greed, jealousy and above
all REVENGE! It tells the story of a little boy with no parents or someone to
love him. All he has is a mouse. The boy finds a talent when he meets a
strange musician that comes to town. The musician teaches the boy but
soon finds that his talent is no match for the eager child. The boy's talent
gives him wealth and fame but at what cost?
The show has music throughout and is best described as a mini-opera! Be
prepared to be frightened and thrilled as The Musician takes you back in
time to hear how one of our most famous villains became bad.
Suitable for ages 6+.
Aine McVerry, Acting Deputy Director of OMAC, explains what audiences
can expect from Pick ‘n’ Mix.
'Twenty four performances will take place over the course of three days in
OMAC, guaranteeing a vibrant atmosphere. Each of the companies has a
distinctive style and we would encourage audiences to experiment and try
something new...We were keen to provide a platform for some of the North’s
leading independent theatre companies to showcase new works, while
providing the opportunity for audiences to sample a variety of theatre styles,
all within one weekend and under one roof.'
